Sažetak
The modern world is leaning more and more towards the equality of rights between men and women, taking the emphasis off the traditional gender roles, however, gender stereotyping is still present in mass media and therefore hampers the achievement of gender equality. In order to shed a light on this issue, this bachelor thesis deals with the representations of women and gender stereotypes aimed towards women in the media, especially in animated films released by The Walt Disney Studios. On the whole, this gender inequality is quite prominent in Disney’s films, especially the ones from the earlier periods of production and, even though many milestones have been made, certain traces of it can still be found even among more recent films. The animated films put under the scope of this work include Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Mulan (1998) and Brave (2012).
