Sažetak
The manner of narration in Andrić’s The Damned Yard – a modernist text with the theme of the repetitiveness of constraint of authority over the individual as a constant historical evil – plays a key role in the construction of concurring destinies and similar characters located in a confined space of the Istanbul re- mand prison the Deposito (The Damned Yard), at an undated time before the collapse of the Ottoman Empire. A multi-layered narration is a suitable device for studying the ideologicity of the text1 within a constructed hierarchy from the external narrator to the interpretative opinion of the characters of focalisers2 and informers. The space of prison is also treated in the analysis of the text as an important narrative element which supports the shaping of the narrative semantics and interpretation of the historical repetitiveness of the social trauma of the individual.
