Sažetak
Juraj Baraković's Vila Slovinka in Old Croatian literature largely gained the status of a canonical work due to the highly valorized patriotic note in the literary-historiographical narrative. The manner of positioning that work within the high traditional culture was marked largely thanks to the construction of Slovinski (Slavic)/Illyrian identity. Baraković's concept of proto-national identity primarily implies belonging to the culture of the Catholic renewal from the time of the Post-Tridentine, late humanist culture, especially the church discourse in which Christianity and nation are promoted as an indivisible concept of resistance towards the Ottomans. The topics of national origin, territorial distribution and language are complemented in Vila Slovinka with the concept of humanistic virtue, embodied in the examples of anti-Turkish heroes and national saints, as well as antipodal examples of liars and traitors, whose role is to emphasize this virtue. Such layered national ideology shows the Baraković's work as pertaining to the historiographical narrative of the early modern period, but also that the author's discourse was propulsive towards the culture of everyday life, i.e. towards the political, cultural and patronage-private relationships within the literary field. The complexity of the theme of humanistic patriotism in Vila Slovinka certainly implies a distinctive discourse of the eclectic genre of panegyric poem and Christian-humanistic examples.
