Sažetak
Health and environment have been subject of interest in many areas of human activity. It is of paramount interest for the strategy of future economic and social development to understand the way in which they are affected by the use of resources on our planet. In this respect special attention is devoted to the use of energy and water resources. It was recognised in the history that, beside the benefit we have gained by the use of energy and water resources, there were also the adverse effects having attracted attention of scientific community in order to learn about possible causes that may affect human life. Any contribution to this field is of great interest for the scientific and engineering society. The First Dubrovnik Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment, held in Dubrovnik, June 2-7, 2002, has been devoted to the different aspects of the use of our resource. Within the papers presented at the Conference there have been those related to the health and environment problems. It is a privilege of the editors of Special issue of the Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal to select papers presented at the Conference and devoted to the assessment of energy, water and environment system effects on human health and environment. With the great pleasure the editors would like to express high appreciation to authors and reviewers for their help in the preparation of this issue. Editors would like to acknowledge Prof. Walter Leal Filho, the editor of the Management of Environmental Quality: An International Journal, for his substantial contribution to preparation of this Special issue.
