Sažetak
Following increased pornography consumption in the last decade, scholarly interest in examining pornography and its correlates has been mainly focused on individual use and less on impacts and realities of pornography use among couples. Although research findings in this area have been decidedly mixed, a convincing body of research suggests that pornography use undermines relationship satisfaction, particularly among male users. However, existing research is largely non-dyadic, focused on mixed-sex couples, and inattentive to different patterns of pornography use within relationships. The aim of this research project to determine if pornography use induces changes in psychosocial functioning that in turn impacts relationship quality or if links between pornography use and relationship functioning reflect non-causal associations produced by other sexuality- related factors, such as sexual attitudes, sexual preferences, or sex drive. From the similarity- dissimilarity perspective, we hypothesize that high dissimilarity in pornography use between partners, rather than pornography use, is connected to lower relationship quality. This perspective might also provide an insight whether hiding pornography use from your partner reflects dissimilarities in sexuality-related factors, and whether men’s lower relationship satisfaction remains related to pornography even in same-sex couples. To test these ideas, we plan to conduct a large-scale dyadic cross- sectional online survey. Using a multilingual convenience sampling, the project aims to recruit 2, 400 participants (1, 200 couples ; 400 mixed-sex couples, 400 same-sex male couples, 400 same-sex female couples) over a course of 12 months.
