Sažetak
The article examines the various handbooks of Modern Greek which appeared in the later half of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century in French, Italian, German and English. They were published mostly after the spreading of the Philhelenism as a Paneuropean movement and during the War of Independence, to respond to the growing interest for all the aspects of the Neohellenic Civilisation. This interest was especially oriented to the language of the descendants of the famous ancestors. Due to the arising language question and the efforts to build a national and a standard language this paper is analysing the structure of the language described in these handbooks.
