Sažetak
The Church has received from Christ the ministry of teaching, consecration and administration. The primary task of the Church is teaching, to which canonical legislation has dedicated the Third Book of the Code of Canon Law called The Teaching Function of the Church. The first title of the Third Book is divided into two chapters. The first one is devoted to preaching, and the second to catechetical instruction. This paper analyzes the canonical provisions of catechetical instruction, especially the role of the institutions legally responsible for catechetical instruction, comparing canonical provisions with the new Directory for Catechesis. Pope Francis has established the ministry of catechist as a permanent ministry in the local Church, therefore the article presents the fundamental points of m.p. Antiquum ministerium.
