Sažetak
Through the long period of time, the roles of Geographical Societies all over the world are constantly changing due to the common knowledge about the world and the tasks emerging in front of the geographers. From the first activities through introducing the shape, the elements and the fabric of the world to the illustrating prevalence and structures of processes, to the initiatives to transfer the geographical knowledge, there is no doubt that still Geography hasn't said all about the world. Croatian Geographical Society – Zadar is a non- profit organization founded in 1989. Its main function is to promote Geography and engage citizens in numerous activities aiming to enhance Geography’ influence in all spheres of human activities. During the last decade the Society is engaged in organizing lectures covering topics of interest for general public, scientific conferences for academics mainly interested in Geography but also other sciences and other activities involving pupils, students and population interested in Geography. The Society aims to involve academics in the field of Geography in order to transfer their knowledge to all interested. The aim of this paper is to present some activities that empower and popularize Geography through Geographical Societies as civic organizations as peer entities of public interest and public activities. Different geographical actions could be useful not only for the education, but for the better of the world as well.
