Sažetak
One of the most interesting figures in Croatia before, during and after World War II was the composer, conductor, and music writer Boris Papandopulo (1906–1991). He lived during both world wars and under two different totalitarian regimes: fascist and nationalist Independent State of Croatia during World War II, and socialist and communist Yugoslavia after World War II. Indicative as this biographical information is, I chose to closely look at the relationship between Papandopulo and the ideologies of his time by research and analysis of his pre-war comic opera Amfitrion (composed in 1937, premiered in 1940). At first glance non-related to the totalitarian regimes that followed its premiere, Amfitrion reveals Papandopulo’s views on the relationship of politics and music.
