Sažetak
Urban gardens are a form of urban, modern agriculture integrated into cities that offer users possibility of food production. The quality of water used for irrigation has implications for agricultural productivity and human health. The aim of this study was to determine the irrigation water quality used in Zagreb urban gardens. Main physicochemical (pH, electrical conductivity (ECw), Cl-, NO3-, NO2-, P, HCO3-, NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) and microbiological parameters (total coliforms, Escherichia coli, intestinal enterococci, colony count at 36 and 22˚C, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Clostridium perfringens) were determined in groundwater used for irrigation. Water was sampled and analysed during 2016 – 2020 from 12 locations according to the accredited, standardised methodology. The physicochemical and microbiological parameters were interpreted according to FAO quality standard and DIN 19650 classification. The results indicated that the most analyzed chemical parameters were under no degree of restiction on use. Only ECw value in 50 % of water samples falls under slight to moderate degree of restriction on use. For microbiological analysis, the samples were classified into four classes, according to the number of present Escherichia coli, and enterococci. 85% of the samples were in the first class, which is equivalent to the drinking water, 11% samples in the second and 2% in the third and the fourth class. The continuous monitoring of water quality indicators for irrigation is important to ensure the adequate water quality applied to agricultural lands in urban areas. Monitoring would prevent the occurrence and harmful effects of potential inorganic and organic pollutants.
