Sažetak
With the emergence of a noticeable amount of capital at the end of the 1860s in Croatia there was a gradual change of previous economic and social conditions. The modest industrialization moves did not affect only the formation of economic elites, but also factory workers. Trying to facilitate the difficult material situation of workers, liberals established workers' education societies under their influence. However, the workers had gradually separated from liberal influence and under the influence of foreign (social democratic) workers' societies established independent workers' societies with cultural and supporting functions. In addition to organizing a singing choir, workers' concerts and parties, the cultural function of societies also included the organization of education. In the example of Zagreb and Osijek, then the main industrial centers of Croatia, the paper will try to explore how the workers' societies have organized and conducted the education of workers in the late 19th century.
