Sažetak
As a result of increasing industrialization, population growth and rising living standards, more and more wastewater with a complex composition is produced, for which more complex hybrid treatment processes must be used. In this work, the hybrid process of electrocoagulation and addition of natural zeolite with different particle size (ECZ) was used to treat compost leachate with very high organic load. Treatment efficiency was monitored using pH, electrical conductivity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), turbidity, total solids, settling rate, and electrode consumption. The results show that the choice of electrode material (stainless steel, aluminium alloy, and sacrificial zinc anode), the particle size of the natural zeolite used (< 90, 90-160, and 160-600 μm), current density (0.003, 0.009, and 0.018 A/cm 2 ), and contact time (10, 20 and 30 min) affect the efficiency of COD and turbidity removal, settling rate, and electrode consumption. The initial solution has a very complex composition and contains a large amount of poorly degradable organic matter, which are not significantly degraded in the single-step hybrid ECZ process. The further solutions can be found in two-step or multi-step hybrid ECZ processes.
