Sažetak
The paper deals with the use of Spanglish in selected works of children’s picture books, namely in Drum Dream Girl, Mango, Abuela and Me, El Perro con Sombrero, Salsa, Little chanclas, Maya’s Blanket and Papa Gave Me a Stick. As the basis for the analysis, the theoretical frameworks of John Lipski and Lourdes Torres were used, more specifically, the three types of bilingualism and difference between intersentential and intrasentential code-switching distinguished by Lipski (1982), and types of strategies used by authors for portraying a bilingual world, as identified by Torres (2007). The analysis of the previously mentioned picture books leads to the conclusion that although they are written by different authors, they use similar strategies and the same types of code-switching in their works. Moreover, the use of the same Spanish words in different books shows us that they are incorporated into the English language and, even more importantly, considered part of the English language. The hypothesis that there would be more code-switching in the 2015 picture books than in the ones previously investigated by Vasatka (2013) was not confirmed, unlike the second confirmed hypothesis that noun switches are the most common types of switches.
