Sažetak
This paper is concerned with the environmental impact of packaging during its creation ; water, air, and land pollution from packaging ; methods and processes of minimizing the environmental impact of packaging. Packaging-derived pollution has a relevant impact on climate change. Because so much plastic packaging has ended up in waterways, it has been declared that the plastic pollution of oceans is a planetary crisis. By threatening plankton populations in oceans with microplastics, more carbon re-enters the atmosphere. Packaging production requires a lot of energy and generates greenhouses gases emission. During the transportation of packaging, greenhouse gases emission occurs. Incineration of packaging emits greenhouse gases particulates. In accordance with the European Green Deal and a new circular economy action plan, it is necessary to develop lead markets for climate-neutral products. The packaging industry must seek innovative, sustainable, and lightweight packaging. The task for packaging manufacturers is to minimize the amount of fuel used in production, as well as greenhouse gases emitted during the transportation of packaging. In the design and manufacture of packaging, manufacturers should produce packaging that can be reused, recycled, or biodegraded naturally. Suitable materials for recycling are glass, metal, paper, paperboard, cardboard, ceramics, wood, recycled plastics like rPET, bio- based materials like PLA, and natural fibers.
