Sažetak
The paper examines the cult of St Blaise, protector of Dubrovnik, from its early days until the fall of the Republic in 1808 and later on. As the independent Dubrovnik state ascended, St Blaise ripened into its ubiquitous symbol, a living entity in the celebrations of his feast day, both in the city itself and wherever people from Dubrovnik lived, and consistently present on the town walls and walls of public buildings, in official books, on health patents, bells, weapons, coins, medals and hallmarks. His image was used to seal public documents, and the state put its stamp on newly- acquired territories by building churches dedicated to him in the local administrative centres.
