Sažetak
Jasione montana L., Campanulaceae, is a garden plant distributed in warm, sunny, or semiarid places in plains and mountainous areas of Europe, northern Africa and in the north-eastern part of the United States. J. montana is contains luteolin1, a flavonoid with numerous beneficial skin-related properities. In this work luteolin-rich J. montana extracts were prepared using biocompatible solvents, such as glycerol and natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES). Cosmeceutical activity of the prepared extracts was tested. The antioxidant effects were tested using DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power and chelating activity. Additionally, inhibitory effects towards the enzymes that influence the skin health and appearance, elastase, collagenase, and lipoxygenase, was tested. The prepared extracts were rich in phenolic compounds (up to 775.48 μg/mL and 1635.69 μg/mL for glycerol and NADES based solvents, respectively). Among phenolic compounds, luteolin was the most prominent (up to 163.24 μg/mL and 204.79 μg/mL for glycerol and NADES based solvents, respectively). The prepared extracts displayed strong radical scavenging, reducing and chelating properties. The extracts prepared using glycerol, as well as the most phenol-rich NADES extractprepared using a proline/glycerol mixture (2:5) and diluted with water (1:1) (PG50-TP)were subjected to the testing of the enzyme-inhibitory activity. In all the performed assays PG50TP was the most active extract with excellent anti-elastase (IC50 = 40.8 μL extract/mL), anti-collagenase (IC50 = 4.1 μL extract/mL), and anti- lipoxygenase (IC50 = 2.5 μL extract/mL) activity. This clearly demonstrates the superior extracting capabilities of proline/glycerol-based NADES. In addition to the excellent antioxidant and enzyme-inhibiting properties, the tested extracts have an additional advantage of being prepared from natural, skin-friendly substances making them ideal candidates for inclusion into cosmetic and dermatologic products.
