Sažetak
Bursting strength is a common method for measuring the strength of corrugated cardboard. Perforations on corrugated cardboard are used for easy opening of Shelf Ready Packaging. However, the perforations on corrugated cardboard affect the mechanical properties. The objective of this paper is to determine the change in bursting strength after applying perforations on corrugated cardboard. The Burst Mullen Test was performed on two different quality of three-layer E-flute corrugated cardboard, perforated with three different types of perforations, with perforations positioned in five defined angles. The different quality of the corrugated cardboard, the different type of perforation, and the different angle of the perforated position are presented as three explanatory variables in the statistical analyses. The specimens without perforation were also tested and compared with the perforated ones. The statistical analysis determined and quantified the reduction in bursting strength of perforated corrugated cardboard. The most significant explanatory variable was the angle of the perforation position. The measured values of the perforated cardboard were rather skewed, but a general trend was evident: values tended to decrease from angle 0 towards angle 45 or 70 and then increased somewhat at an angle of 90 degrees.
