Sažetak
It was supposed that Marc Wortmann, as invited speaker, join us on CROCAD-22 either in person or virtually, and speak about rights of people with dementia from a human rights perspective. But, as you may know he suddenly pass away, on August 15, 2022, at the age of just 64. Let me tell you few words about our friend Marc from his magnificent CV. He studied Law and Art in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands and has a master’s degree in law. He was a member of the Parliament of the Province of Utrecht and worked closely with various charities and voluntary organisations. He became Executive Director of Alzheimer Nederland in 2000. Marc joined Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) and was Executive Director of ADI from November 2006 till June 2017. He was responsible for external contacts, public policy (especially towards World Health Organization and United Nations) and fundraising. He was a speaker at multiple events and conferences on these topics and has published the number of articles and papers on dementia awareness and public policy. From 2017, he was CEO of Marc Wortmann Consultancy in the Netherlands, supporting chronic disease and ageing organizations globally in strategy, advocacy and fundraising. Marc was a strong advocate for people living with dementia, as well as their families and carers/ supporters. His commitment continued in recent years, through involvement in the number of projects, both at a national level in the Netherlands and at an international level. He was truly an integral part of the European and global Alzheimer’s family and we are deeply saddened by his passing. As a consultant, he was still mostly involved in the Alzheimer’s and dementia movement worldwide, but also in human rights issues and the philanthropic sector as such. He was a Board member of eight NGOs including Global Human Rights Defence. Marc was our friend, we meet numerous times, recently we were working on submitting EU project, he was always supporting our work, and was friend of people living with dementia in Croatia. We were visiting together Croatian Ministry of Health to lobby for Croatian strategy/plan to fight dementia. I remember Marc visiting Alzheimer Croatia office in Zagreb, and flying home in my jacket and wearing my scarf, which he took unintentionally in a hurry. He was plenary speaker, on 6th Croatian Congress on Alzheimer’s Disease with International Participation in Primošten, Croatia, 2012, and we awarded him with a “thank you letter”, for his great work which results that WHO named dementia as public health priority. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, and to all of his family, friends and colleagues.
