Sažetak
Excessive ship motions can adversely affect the energy efficiency of the ship, thus increasing harmful gas emissions. The most common methods used today to numerically estimate ship motions come from potential flow codes or strip theory. However, these methods cannot properly capture nonlinear effects in high amplitude waves [4]. The overset mesh method within the fully viscous CFD provides a robust framework for capturing all sorts of dynamic effects without motion constraints. In terms of seakeeping in marine hydrodynamics, it is often used to capture large amplitude motions such as parametric roll, broaching or even porpoising for high-speed cases.
