Sažetak
Risk spillover has been the topic of numerous scientific papers since the 2008 financial crisis which was triggered by spreading of individual risks of several banks onto other financial institutions, causing a chain effect and a spillover of the crisis onto the world economy. To prevent future financial crises, risk spillover in banks has been monitored and managed by macroprudential regulation in order to mitigate the contagion of a large number of financial institutions and a consequential financial shock. Companies from the non-financial sector, which have a business structure dissimilar to the financial institutions, do not have a governing body which would monitor and manage the risks which may lead to large losses in many companies. Thus, the objective of this paper is to investigate the possibilities and analyse the emersion of a crisis and risk spillover among the companies in the non-financial sector. The paper focuses on a case study of a Croatian mineral fertiliser company, for which mechanisms of risk spillover are identified based on historical data, and a comparison to cases shown in the available literature is made. Finally, observations and conclusions about the performance of the mineral fertiliser company are presented, as well as the assessment of the resilience of the company to risk spillover.
