Sažetak
The functioning of today’s life rests on digital technologies. Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, devices and resources that generate, store or process data. Discoveries, innovations and practical use of digital technologies enable continuous improvement of business and transformation of business models. Nowadays, digital and information literacy have almost the same importance as basic literacy, while digital skills and mastery of various types of technology are among the most desirable qualities that make participants competent in the labour market. Their significance is also very high in the education sector, where digitalization and the idea of modern schooling are increasingly talked about and worked on. The use of digital technology in education is an imperative aspect that has gained prominence. Although technology is a decisive factor in all of this, it is not enough. People are the key factor. This is precisely why it is important that the education staff become familiar with technology functionalities to effectively build a digital environment in which young people are brought up. The need for digital reform is increasingly recognized in Europe, so the Croatian academic and research network, CARnet, launched a project in 2015 called “e-Schools: Establishing a system of digitally mature schools”. This programme introduced the e-Diary service. The aim of this paper is to discuss informatization of the education system with a special emphasis on the e-Diary application. The paper explains the reasons for the introduction of e-Diary, and it clarifies its features. Furthermore, it shows the results of the research that was conducted among the teaching staff in Zagreb about the use of the e-Diary by using a questionnaire. The goal is to discover the respondents’ view of the e-Diary based on their sociodemographic characteristics, digital skills and experiences and to give recommendations for its further development.
