Sažetak
Modern firearms and techniques became key arguments of treatises on warfare from the second half of the 15th century. Interestingly enough, the forerunner of these treatises was composed around 1410 by a female author, Christine de Pizan (Cristina da Pizzano), a French court writer. This paper analyses her „Le livre de faiz d'armes et de chevallerie” in the context of the exclusively male authorship of the Late Medieval and Early Modern military writings and will focus on the possibility of the so-called „female gaze” in the approach and analysis of the late Medieval warfare. In particular, it examines the text in terms of disclosure of the female voice expressing opinions on the military matters. Moreover, it traces the echoes of her thought in the later theoretical works on the theme. The fact that a woman rose her voice and feather between the Middle and Early Modern Ages in the arena where she could not physically act is an important occasion to discuss the female participation in the matter of warfare.
