Sažetak
Sveti Križ is one of the most important archeological sites in the area of Prigorje, more precisely the part of Croatia near Zagreb that is located near the border with today's Slovenia. This area was very important in prehistory because with the control of the Sava Valley, the so-called "Brežice Gate" and the confluence of the river Sutla and the Sava, they supervised the routes of exchange and trade along the Sava river all the way to the Danube. Due to the unique helmet of the Sveti Križ type, which was found in 2001, this site is known to archaeologists, not only in Croatia but also throughout Europe. The helmet was found in the so-called "prince's grave", a very specific type of burial that was the privilege only of the greatest warriors and members of the elite during the Iron Age. In addition to the prince's grave, a house from the 5th century BC has been excavated in the last three years, which surprises with the construction techniques and skills of the artisans of that time. Due to the importance of the site and the findings, especially the unique helmet of the Sveti Križ type, we achieved a very successful cooperation with the local Ante Kovačić Municipal Library from Marija Gorica and Zagreb County. Through three years of cooperation, in terms of popularization of archeology and local archaeological heritage from the area of Marija Gorica, we sought different types of activities to raise awareness among locals about the importance of heritage as the basis of their own understanding of identity. In addition to children’s workshops, in which children were to get acquainted not only with the archeological finding but also with the context in which it was created, by using various traditional and modern media (weaving, shaping in clay, 3D printing…), there were also lectures for adults, made to disseminate results of field research in an understandable manner. In order to increase the visibility and sustainability of an important scientific finding in people's memory, according to the model of the Sveti Križ type of helmet, prototypes of souvenirs in the form of jewelry were also made. Significant interest of the audience for the provided content opened the possibility for the interpretation of the local heritage to be expressed in a modern and comprehensive way - by building an interpretation center in the local library. Considering the importance of archeological findings from this area, which are well known now due to the most recent works of researchers, establishing of interpretation center would make possible for the totality of tangible and intangible heritage (which is abundant in the microspace of Marija Gorica) to be merged into a kind of timeline that explains the culture of life in this area, in an innovative and accessible way. In this presentation, we will try to summarize the valuable local heritage (findings, objects, scientific knowledge), and offer possible guidelines for its popularization in the context of forming an interpretation center.
