Sažetak
Considering the lack of research focused on the role of individual differences in the area of occupational stress in seafaring, this study aimed at testing the role of personality traits, work motivation, and job satisfaction in the explanation of seafarers' well-being. The study used multidimensional conceptualization of well-being, and considered its cognitive (life satisfaction) and affective dimension (experience of positive and negative emotions), as well as overall social-psychological prosperity (flourishing). The sample consisted of 286 Croatian male seafarers, working mostly in international / deep-sea shipping. The sample was heterogeneous in relation to the type of ship, and on-board work positions. The research instrument consisted of Diener's measures of well-being (Satisfaction with Life Scale, Scale of Positive and Negative Experience, and Flourishing Scale), Croatian version of IPIP Big Five factor markers, Work Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivation Scale (Tremblay et al., 2009), and newly developed Seafarer's Job satisfaction Scale. In accordance with hypothesis, results of HRAs showed significant role of personality traits (e.g. extraversion and emotional stability), self-determined motivation, and satisfaction with work conditions in the explanation of well-being of seafarers. Obtained results are discussed in relation to their theoretical contribution and practical implications.
