Sažetak
Ultrafast dynamics of three different diazoalkanes (1, 2, 3) was investigated with femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy using third harmonic generated UV pump pulses and broadband white light supercontinuum probe pulses. Diazoalkanes are important reagents in organic synthesis that produce carbenes via photoinduced elimination of nitrogen. Such reactions can occur from higher excited states which allows investigation of anti-Kasha photochemistry.[1] Photogenerated carbenes are widely used as short- lived reactive intermediates where the spin state of carbene plays an important role. We observe intersystem crossing from singlet to triplet state of the carbene[2] formed from 1 but not from 2 or 3. Although being different only by substitution of adamantane for phenol, 2 and 3 display different spectral and temporal features from 1. We aim to unravel reaction pathways with combining measurements and computational studies.
