Sažetak
With the aim of explaining the possible pathogenic role of Demodex the investigation was carried out in 50 rosacea patients and 36 healthy volunteers. D.folliculorum was detected in rosacea in 86%, and in controls in 19, 4%. A higher incidence of D.folliculorum was found in those rosacea patients who had lower skin surface lipids, and in those previously treated with topical steroids (even in 91.9%). In a further 132 patients with dermatitis rosaceiformis steroidica, the mite was positive in 59%. In 60 of these patients, a pathohistological analysis revealed epitheloid granulomas in 18 (30%). Occasionally, we see patients with D.folliculitis, too. The clinical picture is clearly distinct from acne and rosacea. Mainly, these patients are younger women aged 20-40 years, with smaller rough papules on the lateral parts of the face and chin. The skin is more often dry than oily, and we always find D.folliculorum.
