Sažetak
The physical and mechanical properties of fabrics determine the extent of their end use in various applications. Due to the anisotropy of woven fabrics Poisson's ratio changes over the fabric sample stretching. This paper examines the impact of different fabric constructions (different types of weaves) on the value of the Poisson's ratio when uniaxial tensile force acts on the woven fabric. Measurements of breaking force and breaking elongation were carried out on cotton woven fabric samples with constant warp yarn count of 48 threads/cm and constant weft yarn count of 30 threads/cm. For the purposes of this paper, fabrics were woven in three different weaves: plain, twill and satin. Samples are stretched with tensile force in the weft and warp direction, and based on different measured values of fabric stretching, warp and weft Poisson's ratio is calculated. The research presented in this paper has shown that the relative contraction of the woven fabric has a significant influence on the Poisson's ratio. The behavior and shape of the curve of Poisson's ratio of a fabric exposed to tensile action, i.e. elongation, mainly depends on the behavior of the fabric in the direction perpendicular to the elongation. The change in the value of Poisson's ratio is shown by a diagram that first increases non-linearly and after reaching the highest value decreases. The type of connections affects the values of Poisson's ratio.
