Sažetak
Objectives: Edge stability test (ES) is proposed to be reliable test to mimic real clinical situations. Mechanical properties of GIC are most critical in first week during setting. The aim of this study is to measure edge stability of the newer glass ionomers during maturation period after 24h and 7 days. Methods: Five commercially available GICs were used in the study: Ketac Universal AC (3M Espe), Fuji Equia Fill (GC), Equia Forte (GC), IonoStar Plus (VOCO), Riva s.c. (SDI). Ten specimens were fabricated in each group in a total of 100 specimens. Cylindrical specimens (dimensions 4mm diameter×6mm height) of glass-ionomer have been stored in aqueous solutions for periods of 24 h and 1 week. Specimens were tested after 24 hours and 7 days in a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 1 mm/min. Data were analyzed in a two-way ANOVA (p<0.05) with post-hoc Tukey’s tests to compare interactions. Results: Mean edge stability values (N) were 288.66 (24.99) and 290.61 (18.63) for the samples of Ketac Universal and Fuji Equia Forte after 24 hours. The higher values of edge stability were obtained for Fuji Equia Forte 363.72 (21.11) and Ketac Universal 359.16 (24.99) after 7 days of storage in distilled water, but it was not statistically significant difference. Ketac Universal after 7 days showed higher value in ES tests 359.16 (24.99) ; p<0.05 than Ionostar Plus and Riva self cure. Conclusions: Values of edge stability test showed a gentle increase over the one week storage period for GICs proposed for long time restorations. Goal is to find the optimal laboratory conditions to improve the fracture resistance of brittle materials made by this method.
