Sažetak
This study is grounded in the theories of Natural Phonology and Natural Morphology (concretely, the Beats & Binding Phonotactics framework and the Strong Morphonotactic Hypothesis). It elaborates sublexical and lexical processing of morphonotactic consonant clusters in adult speakers of Croatian as a moprhologically rich langauge. In the talk we present the data on two processing experiments, highlighting that speakers rely on different levels of information (preferability and cluster type) during sublexical and lexical processing. The interplay between phonology and morphology seems to aid lexical processing due to the saliency and significant information that morphonotactic clusters carry in a morphologically rich system. The findings have strong theoretical implications which are to be investigated further, on both children and adults, with and without language impairments.
