Sažetak
Learning situations are dependent on the teaching resources to be used to represent real objects, phenomena and teaching processes, which is why teachers should focus teaching placed on relevant experience. Audiovisual materials (television shows, educational films, multimedia software) make a dynamic learning experience more concrete, realistic and clearer, and can motivate and stimulate an individual, which certainly improves thinking and reasoning. The purpose of this research was to determine students' opinions on the use of an educational film as an audiovisual material in teaching vocational subjects. The research was conducted on a sample of second-grade students, from culinary vocational schools from Varaždin and Korenica. After the application of the material within the processing of new content, data were collected by using a questionnaire and analysed by descriptive and inferential statistics. The results point to the positive experiences of students with the use of audiovisual material in the classroom because they considered that its quality satisfied their needs and that its application could improve the teaching quality. In addition, the results show that there is no difference in the needs of students or differences in assessments of teaching quality with the use of audiovisual materials with reference to students’ residence. It is clear that the effectiveness of such resources should be used in teaching, but their application should not be exaggerated. Although the technology has become an important part of teaching and learning, its inclusion in the teaching process depends on the nature of the content itself, school equipment, as well as teachers’ skills and experience.
