Sažetak
Fig (Ficus carica L.) was cultivated in prehistoric times in the Mediterranean and is considered one of the oldest subtropical fruit trees. Before tourism in Dalmatia, not so long ago, the fig was called a feeder, which it really was. Figs were not planted in monoculture, but individually on the edges of vineyards and olive groves, despite that, there were many of them. Agroecological conditions in Dalmatia are very favorable for the cultivation of this crop, but despite this there is a constant stagnation in the cultivation of figs. Due to the great interest in organic products with quality protection and geographical origin, it is important to interest small family farms, due to low initial investments for raising fig plantations, and modest requirements in the form of protection against diseases and pests. Larger cultivation of figs is a rarity, while plantations are represented in a small percentage. It is necessary to revitalize this culture, and it is important to emphasize its importance, both in history and today, especially when we talk about fig products and dried figs. In the area of Dalmatia, a combination of quality agricultural techniques and indigenous varieties can achieve great results in improving yields and thus income. The aim of this work is to show, on the example of the fig plantations of OPG Antonio Čorić, the raising of fig plantations with appropriate agricultural techniques and the planting of autochthonous varieties of figs.
