Sažetak
Olive pomace is a residual biomass of olive oil production that must be adequatly disposed of, in accordance with the Law on Sustainable Waste Managment. Disposal of pomace is one of the leading problems of oil production in the Republic of Croatia. However, although fresh pomace is classified as waste, the possibility of use in the economy is great. In this paper, the national legislative framework for the disposal of biowaste is presented, as well as examples of good disposal practices in the European Union. Furthermore, the possibilities of using pomace as an energy source were examined, whereby bio-waste is adequately disposed of, environmental pollution is reduced and profits are made. Next, the current utilization of pomace in the area of Šibenik – Knin County is presented. At the end, conclusions were made and recommendations were given for further increasing energy efficiency.
