Sažetak
A case of 52-year-old male Caucasian patient who suffered from end-stage renal disease on maintenance hemodialysis three times a week. The patient was admitted to the hospital because of diffuse dull abdominal pain accompanied with fever (39.5°C), nausea and diarrhea (3-4 x/day). Treatment was begun with several lines of antimicrobial drugs. Our patient was now diagnosed as secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). He was treated with dexamethasone and intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIg). After 6 days, recovery of complete blood count was noticed with temperature drop. Despite the recovery of patients general condition and blood tests, he developed massive intracerebral hematomas and died the same day.
