Sažetak
Comediographer Marin Držić is the most important Croatian playwright, he is for Croats what Shakespeare is to the English, Dante to the Italians, Cervantes to the Spaniards. The only printed works during his life that were printed in Venice and kept in National library Braidense, is a very important for Croatian culture. These are first editions and are the only surviving copies in the world, they have long been considered lost, and in 2007 they were found in the rich book collections of Braidense. We know little about Držić’s life, but the Italian places of his literary and life fortune are important to us– he was educated in Siena, lived in Florence where his conspiratorial letters to the Tuscan Duke Cosimo Medici are kept in the Archivio di Stato, the plot of his most famous and translated comedy “Dundo Maroje” - Uncle Maroye took place in Rome, his works were printed in Venice, kept in Milano and eventually he died in that city and was buried in Zanipolo (Churche of St. John and Paul). Due to the fact that Držić did not leave many material traces, his Italian legacy is extremely important for Croatian and Italian Renaissance literature.
