Sažetak
Just like self-managing socialism, architectural production in the Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia was constantly changing. After the Second World War, it was controlled by large, state-owned design offices integrated within federal and republics ministries of construction. With the change of political course after the break with the USSR, that is, the transition from state to self-managing socialism, architectural production became more liberal since the 1950s in terms of work organization, procurement of contracts, distribution of profit, etc. The number of design organizations was constantly growing. Instead of state-directed large offices, several types had appeared - larger offices with several design groups, smaller ones named after the chief designer who was also the director, design offices organized within faculties and institutes of architecture and civil engineering, municipalities, and construction companies. The latter dominated the architectural production since the 1960s, particularly the housing production relying on their type designs, prefabricated systems, and construction technologies. Besides their own designs offices construction companies like Zagreb-based „Tempo“, „Industrogradnja“, and „Tehnika“ had "apartment factories", branches in other parts of Yugoslavia and abroad. Special attention was paid to companies' workers provided with professional training, study trips, apartments, quality accommodation in so-called single hotels, good working conditions in the newly built company’s headquarters, and organized vacations in the company’s owned resorts on the Adriatic Coast, etc. Furthermore, all three companies published magazines whose purpose was to distribute information about their achievements, problems, professional issues, etc. The presentation will cope with the issues mentioned above using the company „Tempo“ as a case study. Founded in 1948 to construct for the Yugoslav Army „Tempo“ was transformed into a commercial enterprise with 7000 workers in 1978. Besides almost regularly published company magazine, from 1949 to 1998, the work of "Tempo" can be followed thanks to anniversary publications, numerous articles in architectural magazines on constructed buildings, and even a company propaganda film produced in 1968.
