Sažetak
To obtain data on mistletoe distribution in Croatia and Slovenia, as well as the list of host species, field examinations have been carried out, and the herbaria of the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Zagreb and the Department of Biology of the University in Ljubljana were investigated. Loranthus europaeus was found on a larger number of host species in Croatia than in Slovenia. In Croatia it appears on nine species, of which seven are oaks, as well as the sweet chestnut and the European hornbeam. Of the mentioned species the common red oak and the pin oak, both North-American species, are allochthonous, whereas the other species are autochthonous. In Slovenia Loranthus europaeus was found on four oak species and the sweet chestnut, which are all autochthonous. In Croatia and Slovenia Viscum album ssp. album occurs on 44 taxons. Of these 41 are species, two are cultivars and one is a hybrid. In Croatia there are 31 hosts (24 autochthonous and 7 allochthonous species), as well as the mentioned cultivars and the hybrid. In Slovenia there are 25 host species (21 autochthonous and 4 allochthonous species). There are sixteen host species which are common in both states. Fir mistletoe occurs in both Croatia and Slovenia on the only autochthonous fir species, the silver fir. On this species it is a major parasite in natural stands and it is widespread in the whole area of silver fir. On foreign fir species this mistletoe has not been observed. Pine mistletoe was observed in both states only on the Scots pine in the continental region. In Slovenia the juniper mistletoe appears on two species, the Juniperus oxycedrus in the mediterranean region and J. communis in the continental region, whereas in Croatia it was noticed only on the J. oxycedrus. The hosts of the three mistletoe species in Croatia and Slovenia belong to 14 families.
