Sažetak
At the times a seminal book on self-portraiture in the arts, Gen Doy's Picturing Self (2004), was published – we did not have a distinctive term for selfies. Nonetheless, by 2013, Oxford Dictionary had dubbed the word selfie the world's word of the year. Since then, the concept of the selfie has been adopted by a plethora of other languages. However, in countries where language is actively engineered, where new words are created not only to satisfy translation requirements, but also to distinguish the language from other, similar languages, the situation is quite different. In many cases these new, artificially engineered words are ridiculous. Yet, as this chapter will demonstrate, some of the proposed neologisms can be quite useful in defining various (sub)types of selfies.
