Sažetak
The paper analyses reasons for the resistance of Cardinal Juraj Haulik, Archbishop of Zagreb, to requests of the Croatian-Slavonian County Assemblies in 1863 and 1864 to introduce the Old Church Slavic liturgy into the Roman Catholic Church Service in the Territory of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, i.e. in the Ecclesiastical Province of Croatia-Slavonia. Apart from ecclesiastic reasons (e, g., the principle of Roman Catholic universalism as manifested in the Latin liturgy, the fact that canonical documents of the Catholic Church were written in Latin, and customary practice), the author emphasises that Haulik’s resistance was particularly motivated by the fact that the requests for the introduction of Old Church Slavic liturgy were politically motivated and did not serve the interests of the Church and its mission among the Croatian people.
