Sažetak
Leishmaniasis is an infectious disease caused by parasites of the genus Leishmania (Trypanosomatid protozoans), and it is transmitted through the bite of sandflies.The clinical manifestation of kuman leishmaniasis is related to complex interactions between the immune response of the human host and the virulence and tropism of the species causing leishmaniasis. Thus, a spectrum of diseases can occur, ranging from localized skin lesions to diffuse involvement of the mononuclear phagocyte system, and is classified into three major disease types: cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), mucocutaneous leishmaniasis and visceral leishmaniasis (VL) or Kala-azar. Although rare cases of ocular leishmaniasis are reported, to the best of our knowledge, a case of late-onset post-cataract endophthalmitis caused by Leishmania has not yet been described in the literature. In this article, was presented the cytomorphology of our case of postoperative late-onset endophthalmitis caused by Leishmania.
