Sažetak
The beginning of the XXI century is characterized by radical changes in the social, economic, political and cultural spheres worldwide. Furthermore, globalization processes have undoubtedly contributed to the increasing prestige and widespread use of English in its role as the global language of intercultural communication. The exponential diffusion of new concepts has set the stage for a significant intensification of the processes of lexical borrowing and word-formation. Given this scenario, and considering the pervasive presence of English in electronic media and in the language of computer-mediated communication (CMC), where particularly interesting instances of mix of languages and lexical creativity can be observed, the aim of the present paper is to investigate in more detail the influence of English on Russian and Croatian in the mentioned domains, with special focus on the integration of English loanwords into the word-formation processes in both languages. The comparative analysis of the collected data shows that, in both Slavic languages, even the most recent English loanwords are very frequently included in the formation of derivational neologisms according to particularly productive types of word-formation processes (namely, affixation and compounding).
