Sažetak
Scholars (e.g. Bassler and Losick 2006) working in the biological sciences have described the complex social lives that microbes can have. They explain how microbes engage in fratricide, hold votes about when is the right time to try to overwhelm their host, and communicate with each other using a microbial form of Esperanto. Yet within the writing on the social sciences and humanities on microbes in human organized dairy production, authors describe how microbes are predominately treated by humans in one of two ways. Either they are seen as dangerous critters who need to be kept at bay because of their ability to harm human health (Mincyte 200x), or they are considered to be important allies who are an integral part of dairy work, such as cheese making (Paxson 2008, 2013). But what if we were to switch perspectives and think about what the microbes are saying about humans? One could say that both zoonotic diseases and microbial contamination are a microbial commentary on human animal husbandry. In this paper, I want to consider this further and think further about what we might learn as humans if we were listen to the microbes in this way.
