Sažetak
The modern school requires more and more of its teachers, thus teacher competencies have become increasingly complex. Those education systems around the world that recognise the importance of ensuring social and, in particular, educational support for gifted and talented individuals have developed a variety of formal and informal forms of tertiary teacher training. Thus this work aimed to showed the models of teacher education for work with gifted and talented individuals that exist abroad in Austria, USA, Australia, Hungary and the Croatian approach to this area, with the aim of improving the current system of teacher education in Croatia. This encourages the reopening of the frequently asked question on the social and political attitude of Croatian society towards the education of the most capable members of society. The results of the documentation study of selected countries indicate that teachers have a certain form of systematic education of the gifted and, in this connection, appropriate teacher training. In the system of teacher education in Croatia, there is a need to improve the program for training teachers to work with gifted children by introducing elements that are present in the practice of the presented models of teacher education in the world and will contribute to developing more systematic care for the gifted in Croatia.
