Sažetak
Poets of the second wave modernism in Croatian literature, and among them especially the generation of “krugovaši”, opened themselves up to translations from other literatures. The importance of Anglo-Saxon translations by Antun Šoljan, Ivan Slamnig and others has often been discussed, but it is also the generation that has opened up to translations of Romance language literature. Translations of Romance literature (especially Italian literature, somewhat less so Spanish) were perceived as somewhat subversive due to ideological and political post-war circumstances. However, with the advent of the magazine Krugovi (1952), translations of Italian, Spanish and French literature experienced a new blossoming. With this in mind, we will consider the translation work of second wave modernist poets and their role in the affirmation of Romance language literature in Croatian literature and culture after the 1950s. The translations of Drago Ivanišević, Jure Kaštelan, Zvonimir Golob, Joja Ricov and Nikola Milićević will be especially observed.
