Sažetak
In 1997 the Republic of Croatia started compulsory motor vehicle approval scheme through ECE regulations for all vehicles imported to or manufactured in the country. The share of less than 100 vehicles manufactured in Croatia in 1996 can be neglected in comparison to 100.000 units imported in the same year. Of the imported units, private persons imported 4 times more vehicles than the registered importers or car dealers did. This paper deals with the vehicle approval system design. The expected effects of this process are also being considered. One of the authors of this article took part in the process as a member of state commission for vehicle approval.
