Sažetak
Master in Translation Program at the Department of French and Francophone Studies of the University of Zadar combines the acquisition of both theoretical and practical competences, linking studies with professional environment. Our students are encouraged to engage in translation projects that will have a tangible result by either being promptly presented to the audience or available to the readership in the long run. Such projects are carried out during the internship and as part of the students’ master theses (translation of films, theatre performances, literary texts, graphic novels, exhibitions, video games, etc.), but also as assignments within different courses (translation of literary texts, films, PETRA-E framework for the education and training of literary translators, etc.). Drawing from my own experience in a number of collaborative poetry translation projects, I have introduced collaborative translation as a didactic method for one of our courses. So far, we have translated Gaël Faye's novel Petit pays (2017), Jean-Marie Laclavetine's travelogue La martre et le leopard (2018), short stories by different francophone authors assembled in the book Then It Must Be Me. A Selection of Contemporary Francophone Short Fiction (2020), while this year a group of eleven students is translating the teen novel Seuls dans la ville entre 9h et 10h30 by Yves Grevet. The translation will be published by Meandar Media this autumn. On this occasion, I will present the training method that includes a number of students working on a single text, and I will analyze the benefits of collaborative translation as part of the training of literary translators, compared against the PETRA-E Framework. Moreover, those benefits reflect all of the Framework competences: transfer, language, textual, heuristic, literary-cultural, but also professional competence. In this respect, I consider collaborative translation to be a valuable training method and an excellent practice for future (literary) translators.
