Sažetak
The Church of Our Lady of Health in Gornja Brela was built in the devastated area between the Ottoman Empire and the Venetian Republic, after the borders were moved to the Mocenigo Line in 1721. For the needs of the new population, a modest single-nave vaulted church was erected in 1733. After its cessation of use in 1939, it continuously decayed, a third of the vault and roof remained, the statics of the load-bearing walls were disturbed, the paving was partially destroyed and the altar was broken. The church was built on the road from the Makarska Riviera to Zagora, modernized during the French rule. Today, it is located within „Biokovo Nature Park“, at the beginning of the educational trail "Paths of Ancient Berulia", which leads from the Park Presentation Center to the Church of St. Nicholas in the heart of the mountain. Due to its cultural and environmental importance, the project for the protection and revitalization of the church was renewed in 2019. The first phase was the preparation of the Report on the current condition of the building, which was much worse than at the time of the previous Conservation study from 1993. In the second phase, archaeological excavations were carried out in two campaigns. The third phase referred to the preparation of a static study with guidelines for restoration, which envisages the renovation of walls and facades, roof reconstruction and horticultural landscaping. Institutions involved in the project (University of Zadar, Biokovo Nature Park, Brolanenses Society, Municipality and Tourist Bord of Brela and the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage) show the range of tasks, interests and goals set in this project. The final is to present the edifice in the cultural landscape and exceptional ambience of the mountain.
