Sažetak
The paper describes child and adolescent self and parental ratings with a Big-Five inventory (IPIP50, Goldberg, 1999) in Croatia. The International Personality Item Pool (50 items) is a cross-cultural instrument targeted to measure the Big-Five domains, adapted for child and adolescent ratings in this study. A large sample of children and adolescents in Croatia (532), aged from 8 to 18 used the IPIP50 to rate themselves (self-ratings) and they were also rated by 493 of their parents or guardians (parental-ratings). The factor analysis yielded a remarkable five factor orthogonal structure for parental-ratings for the whole sample and for every age subgroup, with minor departures. The structure of self-ratings showed a somewhat greater departure from the five factors, especially in the younger age subgroups. The first factors to emerge in the earlier age subgroups were Conscientiousness and Agreeableness and the five-factor structure becomes fully differentiated from the age of 14 onwards. The results are interpreted from two alternative perspectives: 1) The Big-Five becomes sufficiently differentiated in self-ratings in later age subgroups (from 14 onwards) and 2) there is a need to develop special forms of IPIP50 for specific age subgroups, which may lead to Big-Five differentiation in earlier age groups
