Sažetak
The paper describes self and peer ratings with a cross-cultural Big-Five inventory (IPIP100, Goldberg, 1999) in Croatia. International Personality Item Pool was developed with intent to represent a common item format for cross-national comparison of individual differences and IPIP100 is a form of that instrument targeted to measure the Big-Five domains. This study represents one of the first cross-national comparisons with IPIP100. A large sample of University of Zagreb students (519) used the translated Croatian version of the IPIP100 to rate themselves (self-ratings) and they were also rated by 515 of their best acquaintances (peer-ratings). The factor analysis yielded a remarkable five factor orthogonal structure for both data sets, which means that the remarkable match between American and Croatian IPIP100 structure was obtained. The inspection of factor content of five IPIP factors and their relation to emic Croatian lexical factors (from a comprehensive taxonomy of Croatian personality descriptive terms) revealed one-to-one correspondence between IPIP and Croatian emic factors of Extraversion, Conscientiousness and Intellect, while the plane of IPIP and Croatian emic factors of Agreeableness and Emotional Stability showed some overlap. The paper also discusses the relations of IPIP factors and five factors from Goldberg&#8217 ; s bipolar markers as well as the relations of IPIP factors and the dimension of social desirability.
