Sažetak
Tenured Professor Ivo Jajić (Bristivica, July 2, 1932 - Zagreb, June 10, 2010), a renowned Croatian rheumatologist, a world-famous expert in the field of rheumatology, a full member of the Croatian Academy of Medical Sciences, a full professor at the School of Medicine of the University of Zagreb. An exceptional physician practitioner, teacher and scientist with an impressive number of 700 publications, of which 100 books and book chapters in field of rheumatology and physical medicine. These include many firsts in Croatian medical literature, and of particular significance are the first textbook of the University of Zagreb on rheumatic diseases Klinička reumatologija (eng Clinical Rheumatology) published in 1981 and in 1982, and the first comprehensive monograph on rheumatic diseases in Croatian medical literature Reumatologija (eng Rheumatology) published in 1995. He was a promoter of Croatian rheumatology who cooperated with the most prominent experts in the world, developing fruitful and successful international cooperation and friendship. Furthermore, he was a promoter of rheumatology education among professionals and patients. He was a founder and editor-in-chief of Croatian medical journals. He organised and led a number of scientific and professional international and domestic rheumatology congresses, symposia and conferences. He was a member of the most prestigious scientific and professional associations and organizations worldwide. He was a long time Head and founder of new teaching base of the University of Zagreb School of Medicine: the Department for Rheumatology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of Sestre milosrdnice University Hospital Center, where he established and was the Head of the Reference Centre for Inflammatory Rheumatic Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Croatia. He founded the Croatian League against Rheumatism and was its a long-time President. In addition, he was also the President of the Croatian Rheumatology Society and the initiator of the establishment and the President of the Croatian Society for Vertebrology, both of the Croatian Medical Association. In his 45 years of exceptional fruitful career and life with rheumatology, Professor Ivo Jajić significantly contributed to the development of rheumatology in an organizational, professional, scientific and educational way in Croatia and on a global scale. “He was a person, a teacher, and an authority who is loved and remembered.” KSK
