Sažetak
INTRODUCTION / BACKGROUND. The incidence of HIV and other STIs among MSM are much higher comparing to general population. STI services tailored for MSM could potentially diagnose HIV and other STI more efficiently than “regular” STI service, especially in regions where MSM are stigmatized. We developed such STI service in Zagreb, Croatia for testing, counselling and treatment free of charge and without referral as a pilot project in 2014. The concept proved itself and it gradually evolved into a Clinic running once weekly ever since. This is the only similar service in the country. AIMS. To describe that STI service for testing, counselling and treatment free of charge and without referral for MSM will result in high rates of diagnosed HIV and other STIs. METHODS. The data on diagnosed STIs in 2016 were collected and described by frequencies and percentages. RESULTS. We found high rates of certain STIs compared to the Croatian National Registry for STIs. A total of 203 MSM were seen in 2016. The following STIs were diagnosed: syphilis 22 (10%), chlamydia 34 (16, 7%), gonorrhoea 38 (18, 7%) and HIV 7 (3, 4%). CONCLUSIONS. If the model of STI service directed to MSM population would be available throughout the country (or the region) it could have the potential to lower the incidence of HIV and other STIs among MSM and serve as a place for implementing the prevention tools like PrEP (pre exposure prophylaxis)
